MRF MPs - New beginning: water for every person and every place

The National Water Board, established at our proposal, will address the problems of waterlessness in a long-term and comprehensive manner.

In the 21st century Bulgaria has reached a serious water crisis. Over 260 000 people in 16 cities and 283 villages lived without normal access to water. The reasons for this: diluted responsibility between institutions, piecemeal working, outdated and depreciated infrastructure and lack of a long-term plan and strategy.

The solution came from the MRF-New Beginnings through the creation of a National Water Board, initiated by MRF Chairman Delyan Peevski and actively supported by the party's MPs.

Today the Board works at national level, bringing together all institutions. It coordinates action against the water crisis, plans for the long term, collects data and guides water operators, municipalities and ministries, coordinating repairs, upgrading water mains and organising studies of new water sources for a stable water supply.

The Results are already in:the number of settlements on water regime is decreasing, the situation is improving, and a number of villages now have a stable water supply.

This example clearly shows the way the MRF works - big thinking, huge scope and long-term problem solving.

What more did we do for people's water: We secured emergency funding for water supply systems and repairs to water intakes and pipelines in a number of municipalities in Bulgaria

We also secured funding for river prevention and clean-up in urban areas

We took measures to protect water resources and guarantee the irrigation season

We supported the introduction of a voluntary and simplified registration procedure for private wells and boreholes

Strengthen control of emissions, waste and illegal dumping through legislative initiatives and the introduction of electronic registers
